How to get your TCard and Set up UTMAIL+

Every student within the Faculty of Arts and Science must have a TCard and a UTmail+ email account.

WHAT IS A TCARD?

The TCard is a photo ID smart card. It’s also:

Normally, before you set up your UTmail+ account, you will first need to get a TCard. However, the university has announced that while campus is closed, no physical TCards will be issued. Instead, students will be able to obtain their UTORid and U of T email by other means.

HOW DO I GET MY UTMAIL+ ACCOUNT WHILE CAMPUS IS CLOSED?

Step 1: Submit a photo online using the MyPhoto system

This photo will eventually be used for your TCard when campus reopens.

Step 2: Make an appointment with a TCard staff member using CLNx

During this appointment, which will be conducted via Microsoft Teams, the TCard office verify your identity and give you what you need to activate your UTmail+ email account. To prepare for this appointment, you should have a valid piece of physical government-issued photo identification or documentation.

Step 3: Follow your UTORid activation instructions

These instructions will be provided to you during your identity verification meeting, and will give you access to UTmail+ as well as other useful online resources.

Step 4: Enjoy your UTmail+ account!

Once you have a UTmail+ account, you should always use it when emailing professors or other offices on campus. It is also the only email that the University will use to contact you. A cool feature of UTmail+ is that it gives you an impressive email account with 1TB (yes, a terabyte) of memory for inbox and file storage.

For more detailed instructions and to find out more about this process, please visit the TCard website.

WHEN CAN I BEGIN THE PROCESS?

For students who will begin their studies at the University of Toronto in September 2020, the MyPhoto system will be accepting photo submissions beginning on June 1, 2020.

WILL I NEED TO GET A PHYSICAL TCARD EVENTUALLY?

According to the TCard office, you will need to get a physical TCard when the university reopens. You can get a TCard in person at the TCard Office in the Koffler Student Services Centre (214 College Street) during their hours of operation. Whether you are a domestic or international student, you need to know either your student number or your UTORid, and you must bring a piece of government issued photo ID.

If your legal status has changed since you applied to the University, you should stop by your Registrar’s Office with your original legal status documentation (study permit, passport, etc.) and have them update it for you before you get your TCard.
